The instructors have noticed that Arunim adds to a class as a whole. As of late, we've seen him stay deeply engaged, ask genuine questions, and show that he is really thinking about the drills—not simply going through the motions.

He also steps up when instructors ask a question. We can usually count on Arunim to be a good partner, train hard, and try to help the person working with him. That matters. Great training partners make every person in the room better.

Overall, Arunim brings good energy to the mat and seems to genuinely care about training. That focus, effort, and willingness to help are exactly what we want to recognize.

Congratulations, Arunim—our September 2026 Student of the Month.

In May 2024, I made a decision: our Black Belt instructors should stay focused on their training and teaching, rather than having to wear every possible hat at weekend birthday parties. Running sales and events outside the scope of teaching is not a responsibility I want to put on the kids who work here.

Hala was one of the two people I hired to fill that role. Since then, she has become a key part of the experience families have at Blur—from camps and birthday parties to the small details that help an event run smoothly.

Hala has also trained through the Junior Warrior curriculum. She loves working with young kids, and I hope that one day she may be able to bring that energy into our youngest classes as well.

Thank you, Hala, for helping Blur's community days feel organized, welcoming, and fun.

What Coach Mel Taught Me About Fear

A low-kick seminar put Coach Mel on Will's radar. Years later, after a hard training experience changed how Will understood fear, Coach Mel became the coach who helped him find his way back onto the mat.

The story leads from Muay Thai and an amateur fight to a bigger question: when fear takes over, are fighting skills enough to help someone make the safest decision?

The answer shaped how Will thinks about coaching, pressure, and what self-defense is really for.
