Teen Self-Defense Program · Ages 13–17

Before She
Goes Alone.

Your teen is about to step into the real world — college campuses, parking garages, late nights, and situations you can't control. In 2–3 months, we can give them the awareness, confidence, and physical skills to handle it.

Why Blur Martial Arts

The Best Place
Your Teen Will Ever Train.

We've spent 18+ years in San Diego teaching real self-defense — not sport karate, not choreographed forms, not belts for attendance. What we teach works in the real world, and your teenager will know the difference from day one.

"Most self-defense programs teach your kid what to do. We teach them who to be."

— Will Davidson, Head Instructor · Blur Martial Arts

🎯
Built for the Real World

No katas. No sport competition. Every technique we teach is designed for the scenario your teen will actually face — not a dojo, but a parking lot, a campus, a party that went wrong.

Results in Weeks, Not Years

Our curriculum is engineered for fast competence. Most teens develop real situational awareness in the first few classes. Physical skills that hold under pressure come in 2–3 months — not years of training.

🧠
Confidence That Carries

The biggest change parents notice isn't physical — it's mental. Teens who train here walk differently, talk differently, and handle pressure differently. That confidence follows them everywhere they go.

For Every Parent

The Worry
Doesn't Stop.

You've done everything right. You've raised them well. But the moment they walk out the door alone — to a campus, a party, a parking lot at night — you know the world doesn't always play fair.

This program isn't about making your teen paranoid. It's about making them prepared. There's a difference — and your teen will feel it from day one.

The Framework

The Timeline
of Violence

Violence doesn't appear out of nowhere. There's always a window — a moment where the right response changes everything. We teach teens to recognize that window and act early, not after it's too late.

Step 1
Detect

Something feels off. Your gut fires before your brain catches up. We train teens to trust that signal and act on it early — before the situation locks in.

Step 2
Diffuse

Most confrontations can be walked back. Confident body language, clear verbal boundaries, and smart positioning can end a threat before it starts.

Step 3
Defend

If it goes physical, they're ready. Explosive, instinct-based techniques that work under adrenaline — not choreographed moves that fall apart under pressure.

The Curriculum

Four Skills.
Real World Ready.

This isn't a traditional martial arts program. It's a real-world readiness curriculum built specifically for teens heading into independence — covering the mental, verbal, and physical layers of personal safety.

01
Situational Awareness

Most danger is avoidable — if you see it coming. We teach teens to read environments, identify pre-attack indicators, and trust their instincts before a situation ever escalates. This is the skill that keeps them safe 90% of the time.

02
The Timeline of Violence

Violence doesn't happen instantly. There's always a window — a moment to detect, a moment to diffuse, and only as a last resort, a moment to defend. We teach teens to recognize that window and act early, not late.

03
Verbal De-escalation

Words are the most powerful self-defense tool. We teach teens how to project confidence, set boundaries clearly, and defuse tense situations before they become physical — skills that work in dorms, at parties, and on campus.

04
Physical Self-Defense

When everything else fails, they need to know what to do. We teach kickboxing, wrestling, and escape techniques — real-world skills that work regardless of size or strength. No years of training required. Just 2–3 months of focused work.

Why It Works Fast

2–3 Months.
Not Years.

Traditional martial arts take years to master. Our program is different — it's built around your body's natural instincts. The flinch response, the startle reflex, the freeze-fight-flight system that's already hardwired in every human being.

We work with those instincts, not against them. That's why teens develop real competence in weeks — not years. The techniques are simple, explosive, and built to work under adrenaline.

A summer before college is all it takes to give your teen a skillset they'll carry for life.

The Real World

Campus. Parties.
Parking Lots.
Late Nights Alone.

These are the real scenarios your teen will face. Not a dojo. Not a controlled environment. A parking garage at 11pm. A party where something feels wrong. A walk back to the dorm that takes a wrong turn.

We train for those moments — because that's where it actually matters.

The Program

Teen Self-Defense
at Blur MA

Our Teen Self-Defense program is designed specifically for ages 13–17. It's not a watered-down kids class or an adult class they're squeezed into. It's built for where they are — physically, mentally, and emotionally.

Classes are small, focused, and taught by instructors who understand teenagers. We cover situational awareness, verbal de-escalation, and real physical self-defense — all in a structured curriculum that builds real competence fast.

Common Questions

What Parents
Ask Us

My teen has zero martial arts experience. Is that okay?

That's exactly who this program is designed for. We start from scratch and build real skills fast. No prior experience, no uniform required for the first class.

How long until they're actually prepared?

Most teens develop real situational awareness within the first few weeks. Physical skills that hold up under pressure take 2–3 months of consistent training. That's it — not years.

Is this just for girls?

Not at all. Boys face real-world threats too — fights, hazing, robbery, and situations that escalate fast. Every teen leaving for college benefits from this program.

Will this make my teen paranoid or anxious?

The opposite. Teens who train here become calmer and more confident — because they know they have options. Anxiety comes from feeling helpless. Preparation removes that.

What if they're only here for the summer before college?

That's exactly the right time. Our program is designed to deliver real competence in 2–3 months. A summer of training before they leave is one of the best investments you can make.
